The 6.8M earthquake hit in a mountainous area near Ighil, Morocco, about 50 miles from historic Marrakesh with a strength not recorded in the region in 120 years. The death toll is expected to rise as the quake left extensive damage, toppling homes, destroying vital infrastructure, and leaving people in need of rescue and help in hard-to-reach areas. Fondation de France, which has been at work in the area for years, raised 250,000 euros on Saturday, September 9, and made a call for donations to support its action and help the thousands of families affected by the earthquake.
